The initiatives created to help children and adolescents have earned EDP Bandeirante, EDP Escelsa and Enersul, the title of Children's Friend Company, bestowed by the Abrinq Foundation, an organization that promotes the rights of children and adolescents.
EDP Escelsa agreed to work in conjunction with the state government of Espírito Santo by providing financial support for Iases (Espírito Santo Socio-educational Assistance Institute). With the help of the company, educational, health and leisure activities will be conducted for underprivileged children and adolescents. The resources will be forwarded to Criad (State Council on the Rights of Children and Adolescents), which will administer the funds.
The "Christmas of Light" program, sponsored by Eletrobrás, is designed to highlight the importance of historic monuments and churches throughout the country. The initiative also encourages the decoration of the fronts of residences, stores, hotels and other commercial establishments.
Every year, EDP Bandeirante illuminates the Nossa Senhora Aparecida Sanctuary, in the city of Aparecida, with the installation of around 100,000 micro-lights on all four sides of the church tower.
Enersul decorates the Morada dos Baís, the residence of an old and traditional family in the south of Mato Grosso. Considered to be the first building with two floors in Campo Grande, the house today serves as the local headquarters for Iphan (National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute).
EDP Escelsa assembles and lights the 100-foot-tall Christmas tree for the city of Vitória, located in the Praça dos Namorados.
EDP Bandeirante is working to develop social protection policies designed to help adolescents and children at social and personal risk.
This support is the result of commitments taken on by the company, in an effort to improve the quality of life for children and adolescents: by contributing to the Municipal Fund For the Rights of Children and Adolescence, with the equivalent of 1% of due income tax, as estimated from taxable profits earned by the company over the year.
Enersul provided resources to three organizations recognized for their social work in Campo Grande: Working Mother Assistance (Amat), in the Aero Rancho Neighborhood, which offers day care service to low-income mothers and serves as a home for abandoned children; São Gabriel Association - Angels for Good, which treats 30 HIV positive children and adolescents and offers support to family members; and the Life Squad, an entity that works to help adolescent drug addicts recover.
EDP Escelsa sponsored the following events and initiatives for citizenship and social responsibility: Participation in the Scouts Union of Brazil Peace Fair; the event Solidarity Hands, organized by the Capixaba Volunteer Movement and by the Living Well Program; an architectural plan for the Health Reference Center at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, designed by EDP Escelsa professionals; the First Solidarity Show - A Night of Chorinho, Solidarity and Social Responsibility, held at the Health Reference Center; donation of 200 Christmas souvenirs for the children in the Sarça Project - organized by the Vitória Presbyterian Church. The souvenirs were made by EDP Escelsa employees who participated in the Women's Health Program, organized by the social service.
